The Gallery at Twenty Pearl is now open and is a simply spectacular showing of some of the finest artists on Cape Cod.  It is a true honor to have my work among art of this caliber.  This is a cooperative gallery, and you will find an artist in the gallery each day - 10am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday and  12:00 noon to 6 pm Sunday.  We also have a new web site: http://www.TwentyPearl.com.

The Gallery at Twenty Pearl Grand Opening

Posted in Classes, The Gallery at Twenty Pearl, Uncategorized on June 30, 2008 by Bonnie Perry

The Gallery at Twenty Pearl will have a Grand Opening and Artists’ Reception on Thursday, July 3rd from 5 pm to 8 pm.  Where?  Why 20 Pearl Street, Hyannis, of course.  The gallery features the work of 16 Cape Cod artists and is a  great chance to see my latest work including my new collections - Ruffle, Reaghan, Calypso, Vera, Bluer than Blue and Violets.  As you can see, I’ve had a fun time naming them.

I believe that something VERY exciting is beginning here in Hyannis and am thrilled to be a part of this Renaissancee.  Come and see for yourself!  Hope to see you there!

The opening coincides with Artscape which takes place the first Thursday of each month in the downtown Hyannis area.  http://www.hyannismainstreet.com/Artscape/  Galleries are open and discounts given at some restaurants. This month features Pearl Street, which is emerging as the centerpiece of efforts to put Hyannis on the map as an art destination.  The Shirley Blair Flynn Center for the Creative Arts sits at the corner of Pearl and South Streets.  The Guyer Barn, where I am teaching wire wrapping classes is part of the Center.

Harbor Your Arts Artist Shanty Opening

Posted in Harbor Your Arts Shanty on May 21, 2008 by Bonnie Perry

My Harbor Your Arts artist shanty opened this weekend.  The weather turned out to be fanastic and the Maritime Festival brought many visitors to the Hyannis harbor area.  The Harbor Your Arts Artist Shanties are seven small buildings along a boardwalk edged by beach grass and wonderful hydrangea bushes which will blossom later in the season.  The boats leave from the dock and head to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.  Fishing boats also come in with their catch.  Here is the view from my shanty - the best view in town!  I grew up a short distance from the dock and spent many childhood days palying around these same docks.  Like being home again.

My “Desk”

My Messy Glass Table

My glass table is messy on purpose (ok, well, partly on purpose because cleaning = boring…).  Some times I plan my color choices, but other days I just totaly follow my muse.  I pick up one color and an unexpected choice follows as a result of seeing the glass randomly scattered about the table.

If you look closely you’ll see that I sometimes use fancy brass presses, but I also love my old steak knife and trusty Ace Hardware pliers. I watch television while beadmaking - thus the remote.  I switch between the History Channel and CMT.  Maybe that’s why some of my beads are rather tame while others have a stronger vibe to them.

A Peek Inside My Glass Studio

My Glass PaletteHere’s a quick peek inside my glass studio.

My pallet.

Sometimes the colors mesmerize me, and I  just sit and gaze at my glass for inspiration.

There  are so many choices.

Do I want to:

work with opaque or transluscent glass?

let the colors speak or the design?

work on meticulous detail?

layer colors?

add silver foul or dichroic glass?

Am I feeling light-hearted and whimsical or more dramatic?

The list goes on and on and keeps my glass life vibrant, everchanging and always exciting.

A Bluer Than Blue Bouquet

Bluer Than Blue BouquetHere’s a bluer than blue bouquet.  I just couldn’t resist putting these beads into a vase.   I simply love this bold transparent colbolt glass.  I’ve made them into a Bluer Than Blue Bauble Necklace.  The shell bead is a bauble gone bad…smile.  There is one “Mary Englebright” bead in the bouquet - black and white with a big yellow flower.   I made that for a special friend.

My Glass Studio

My Glass StudioI’m heading out to my glass studio for a fun-filled day of playing with glass.  There is nothing better!  My studio window boxes have pansies, and there is a large flower to cheer me on.  Here’s a look at the studio from the outside.  Notice that I have one window covered?  That is to keep the direct light out of my flame area.  My work is all about managing the glass in the flame, so I darn better be able to see where that flame is!  Not only for detailed textures and finely shaped beads, but also so that I don’t totally burn myself.

What a coincidence!

Posted in Beads on April 23, 2008 by Bonnie Perry

I just got an email from someone who bought one of my necklaces last summer.  She shared with me the most  outlandish coincidence.  She attended a wedding in the Bahamas and met another wedding guest also wearing one of my necklaces!  It is a small world.  They had what sounded like a delightful conversation about my work.  That just proves it. One never knows…..
